WIW 3/7 Opera Edition

Tonight I'm seeing The Consul. It was written in the 50's and is about confronting bureaucracy. It is also three hours long with two intermissions. I sincerely hope I don't fall asleep.
Anyways this is a Marni dress I bought years ago from a sample sale. I tried to consign it with the tags still attached. It did not sell. So I am trying to salvage it. I think I'm going for fashion blogger escaping from the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War. It probably doesn't quite work, but I'm going solo tonight, so you'll have to let me know if it's off to the fashion gulag for me.
With Brooks Brothers button no-iron button down, Fallon mixed chain and rhinestone necklace, and Miu Miu platform sandals.
If I look tired it is because I'm exhausted.

Is that the pinkish one? I like how ou have styled it -- you made it an Anna look.

    Risky! Brava!

  • rae replied 10 years ago

I actually like it quite a bit!

The socks and shoes totally make the look work.

I can't think of anything nicer than snoozing while being serenaded. The dress fits you beautifully! Have you thought about dying it, or altering the neckline, or whatever, so you'd wear it more?

I like it and it looks like you.  It's amazing how casual opera dress has become.

The socks and shoes make this work - I like it!

When I was 19, I begged my teacher to let me sing Magda's big aria...."To this we've Come."  Such a powerful piece --- and I definitely was not ready for it.  She wisely gave me "O mio babbino caro" instead.  But I still relate more to Magda pouring her broken heart out and speaking truth to power.

I've never seen the whole opera, but that piece alone is worth it.

Your outfit is perfect for the evening.  I'm sure the cast and production designers would applaud your choice!  Eastern bloc fashion with expert tailoring and quality!

All right, I'll be the dissenter - I like it okay and it fits well, but it doesn't wow me or seem quite in line with what I've seen and loved from you lately.  Not my favorite color on you.  Sorry.  I certainly understand wanting to do something with it though!

I think you've salvaged this dress brilliantly.  The white shirt underneath brings out that potentially difficult color in a flattering way.  The necklace, socks and shoes make the outfit so fashionable.  You are so talented Anna!

  • Jenava replied 10 years ago

OK, so this was not the dress I thought it was.  The color isn't great for you, but it's PERFECT for this opera, and I do think you pull it off with the socks and shoes.  I still think it's very Anna because it has a bit of whackadoodle fun vibe to it, with a strong point of view.

I definitely like it.  The necklace and the ankle socks really make the look.

Do you know about this site?  It might sell there, for more than you'd get at consignment--if you still don't love it:

I think you have worked the dress beautifully. My comment would be that I'm. It sure of the colour. Perhaps it's pickier than it looks on screen but I would say it's your best colour. I do like the styling tho and you look great.

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

It works for me. I think the shoes seal the deal.

  • Joyce B replied 10 years ago

It looks very nice. It is not as fun as your other looks but it is nice and formal looking.

  • Janet replied 10 years ago

I think you did a pretty great job of salvaging the dress, and it does seem quite occasion-appropriate, but I agree with Una that it's not my favorite thing of yours. Still, cheers for a job well done on styling a difficult piece!

  • El Cee replied 10 years ago

First of all, you did an amazing job of styling this dress. So creative and fun! The ankle socks with heeled sandals are the icing on the cake. And, as an aside, I adore your necklace. That being said, I am not sure that the color of the dress flatters your lovely complexion. IK had a good idea… could the garment be professionally dyed? Just a thought.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

The styling on this is amazing, Anna, especially for your purposes. So much fun.

    Killer

Really pretty and elegant - and then in true Anna-Style, you're all funky and unexpected on the feet. Love it.
